Ever consider self-publishing your poetry and lyrics through a service like Lulu or Createspace and selling them through your site? Even if everything in the collection has already been published on your blog, some people love to have the physical book in their hands. And another option to increase the perceived value: rather than sending them directly to the publisher’s site to buy the book, take their money via PayPal, buy the book yourself, and sign it before mailing it to them. That way they have a signed original! Let them know if they bring a signed copy to one of your shows, they’ll win some sort of prize (not sure what you’d like to offer…) Monetizing a blog doesn’t have to feel whoreish.
I have sold three chapbooks of poetry which are on the website after selling out the print runs. I suppose I could always print more if there is interest, but I hate killing more trees & paying someone I don’t know at a corporation to print what you can read here. I would also gladly type up any poem from this site on a piece of personally designed art paper for a one-of-a-kind original signed piece of poetry. I gave all the messages in bottles away because nobody wanted to give me any dollars for them, but I can always make more…
